I have been doing peer workshop for as long as I can remember. In elementary school and high school peer workshop was seen more as you being the editor rather in college with you being the reader. In elementary and high school, the person would take a red pen and completely mark up the work by changing the grammar and sentence structure and writing notes in the margin. In college it is all seen as suggestions. The person writes stuff about what you can improve on and what was good. They don’t take the paper and dissect each word. I liked the peer workshop that we did in class for that reason. The person read as a reader and not as a teacher or an editor. The only thing that I feel like we need to improve on is being more critical. I’m not sure if it was just my group or other groups too but none of us could find anything wrong with each other’s work, but I feel like we were being too nice. I like when I get work back with criticisms because I feel like there is always room for improvement. On Monday on the online one I feel like it will be easier to be more critical because you won’t be seeing the person face to face.

Typically, when I revise my work, I like to work on it then read through it and revise it right after. Sometimes if I finish my work a day early, I will go back the next day and double check it just to see if I missed any mistakes that I had not caught before. Once I get feedback from my peers or instructor, I revise it right away if I take their suggestions into consideration. As a writer through the revision process I learned that I make careless grammatical mistakes like forgetting commas or to capitalize certain words or often I see that I have many run-on sentences. I also reuse the same words in many of my sentences showing that I do not really have an expansive vocabulary, which I am trying to work on. I am confident that when I make my revisions to my work that it will help improve my grades because in my opinion the revisions often elevate my writing and make it more formal which will help me get a higher grade. I do think the E-portfolio has made me think about revision and the writing process more than I have in the past just because my work is now online for everybody to see and is no longer just being written for my teachers to read.
